1/10 of a degree

Shrinker mentioned on the now defunct Motorsportsvillage forum that he used to tune with ignition timing with a 1/10 of a degree increments.

Does anyone know what he was using to do that?

After doing some more digging I came across a post where Shrinker mentioned the MSD 8977 programmable unit.

This unit is no longer made by MSD so does anyone know what they now make that replaces it?

The Volkswagen guys seem to like the cb performance black box. I don't have personal experience though.
