twin dominator prob.

Postby smallblock » Fri Apr 09, 2021 2:14 am

After finally convincing my friend 2 switch his 2 1250 dominators to 2 circuit, after he had them rebuild twice to fix his prob. by a "Pro", He's letting me convert them, and I found some wierd stuff. First his problem is, coming up on the break if he puts his foot to the floor it will stall. He can keep it running if he feathers it tho.
On taking this apart I found the T-slots look like someone took an axe to them. There like .45 wide at the top and narrow at the bottom. This may be why there are .052 t-slot restrictors in the body.
The inter.feeds in the block are also rather large at .102. Along with 45 squirters.
Questions are would you go smaller on the t-slot restrictors? Is going to 2 circuit and getting rid of the int.circuit enough?
Engine is a 706 bbc Big chef heads ,824 roller 322 duration Any other help would be appreciated.

So I am thinking to over come this rather large t-slot, to go from a .52 t -slot res. to a .47, new down low idle feed from .37 to say a .31and increase the idle air from .46 to an .55 .That with maybe going smaller on the squirters from 45 to 40 so they last longer and changing to 2 circuit . Any thoughts ?

The T slot shape is a real problem, the restrictor deal with fuel but the shape is critical, the T slot size is calculated in square inches to a theoretical volume of air flow and vacuum, if the T slot area (these are really small numbers) is increased then the signal to that circuit will be reduced - remember we are dealing in square inches, a little change makes for big difference. The large T slot means that the signal will be weaker and the fuel curve (for the T slot) flatter.
Might be able to compensate with smaller bleeds, need a big air flow machine to tell.
How is the linkages set up? They staggered so that he's on the limiter with just the primaries and has the secondaries to hammer it on or is he one of those guys that goes foot to the floorboards on the limiter?
You might consider closing the throttle blades fully, get the right idle rpm with small holes (maybe .060 w/8 blades, I had a set w/ .100ish and the idle too high and replaced the blades so I didn't experiment) and that should restore some of the signal to the carbs.

Thanks for the reply ...it has the soft prog. linkage on it ..but yes he just puts it to the floor. Was hopeful the t-slot would not come into play at wot on the brake.

I usually stay around a 61 tslot res. Thought thats why the person before me installed 51's. Wondering if going smaller would help?

Might try to convince him to replace the bodies. His 1250's have been bored out, either bigger than a 2.125 if they were 1250's or 1050's bored to a 1250 size. That's why the t-slots are upside down teardrops. That's possibly his issue, t-slots bleeding too much air thru the upper part of the teardrop. The t-slots have to have a little activity to avoid a stumble, and that is likely what's hurting it. If you pull the carbs off how much slot is showing? On 2 carbs you usually want it at the bottom of the closed blades, but with that you could try filing them to expose a little.
