Carb Book?

Any suggestions on a good book on Holley style 4150's to help me understand the inner workings of these carbs? Not a total novice having rebuilt, rejetted and tuned up these carbs on my dirt cars over the years but I'd like to have a reference and go-to book...

I ordered David Vizards book to start with.

Funny I've been working on these carbs since the 60's but now I find out I don't know anything about them so I had better catch up!

I don't think I would waste my money on any books. If you read most of the stuff on this web site, and the old one. You will learn more than any book on the shelf today. There is so much wisdom here, you will learn more than you need. Just my 2 cents.

Shorty, just IMO but I'd try the Ulrich or Emanual books. Seems to me like Vizard is always pushing some brand or buying more new stuff or something. IMHO, all that jazz.

I have bought/read many books on carbs, specifically American style carbs that have a venturi & booster [ which work differently to a constant vel type carb like an SU or Amal ].

The best by far is John Passini's Weber book, ISBN # 9781855207592. Do you know what happens if you reduce the size of the discharge nozzle in the booster?
It has an effect & this book tells you.

If you want to try to learn the physics of it then I'd reccommend Larew's 'Carburetor & Carburetion' (something like that), its a college level engineering book that takes you thru the physics on how to calculate and design a carburetor, what all those holes do and why they are where they are. It is a tough read, I think its meant to be used in the classroom where the teacher can fill in some of the gaps in the calculations. It is math heavy.
If I remember right, at the end, the 'final exam' is where you design a 1bbl carb for a stationary 4cyl, 150ci engine that makes 100hp at 2500rpm and the carb has a 3/4" throttle blade, show all calculations (incl air bleeds, velocity, volume etc); the 2nd question is the same carburetor with an 11/16ths throttle blade.

Great suggestion but I'd be dead before I figured out all the answers to the questions posed on the exam?

Math never was my strong suite... 3rd grade was the best three years of my life...
