Holley cfm selection

That's exactly the issue with charts. So I have a 461" small block the ruins 7900 thru the traps in the 1/4 mile. 1050 Dominator using the 475" chart. I'm fastest with a 2.25" butterfly dry flow about 1700 CFM... And I've run up to a 2.800 butterfly with no issues. Then look at a 632 on methanol, it will barely use a 1250. No simple answers.

Next up: some facebook refugee logs on to point out that he always runs a Dominator on his 283s.

What these charts do not take into account is drivability. A bazillion cfm might win at the drags, but try punching the throttle in high gear in a street car to pass a truck.....

One does wonder why GM used a 780 cfm Holley on the little 302 Z/28? Even at 7000 rpm, that seems like a little overkill compared to conventional wisdom I have no doubt that they came to their conclusions though extensive testing, but it seems like a curious choice for an engine that already is weak in the lower RPM range.
