Pontiac air lid mesh?

Anyone know why 1975-79 400/455 Pontiac Quadrajet used the stainless steel mesh on the air lid? Thanks.

It served the same purpose as the air horn baffle on some chevy's ( pictured below ).
To prevent fuel droplets on hard acceleration lifting out of the fuel bowl and entering the secondary

…thanks for the reply. I was watching a few UYube videos on these carbs on rio and it seems to be sucking fuel from this mesh and not doing a great job at all? Is there a reason why that screen is even needed? The huge front vent should be more than enough, or am I missing something on functionality? Thanks.

On earlier carbs it was a round hole above the float. sticking the air cleaner stud in this hole by mistake would destroy the float.
Remanufacture carbs stuck a t-metal in the round hole to prevent this happening.
Later carbs changed the casting to a narrow rectangular hole, that the air cleaner stud will not fit into.
1960's cars didn't have enough tire on them OEM to get enough traction , so no fuel lifted from this hole ( vent )
