Both carbs operate together, with the secondary's being progressive. So the idle circuits on the secondaries are functional at idle, but the plates dont start opening till aprox 40-50% throttle. Am i making sense?

You really need to set both carbs up at idle with a Unisyn. Andy Wood has a YouTube page. Unity Motorsports Garage. Go look at how he uses a unisyn to make sure both carbs are timed together.

You can lose your mind if you have one carb leading the other. Even if the throttle adjustment screws are set equally, one carb can be leading the other.

That’s been done and gets checked and rechecked constantly.

Update on the Jalopy for those interested . Fired the thing up last night and adjusted the idle mixture maybe 1/16 turn in on all 8 corners. Leaned out a bit and got a bit more vacuum at idle also. So I decided to take it to work today and see what that did to the overall low speed cruise. Much much better. I’ll know better on the drive home, but I’m very optimistic. Seems that it may be a smidge lean at the transition from slots to mains but again I’ll know more later.
