Electric choke adjustment?

Electric choke adjustment?

Postby Nick_nl » Sun May 22, 2022 9:10 am

Hi guys, for some time now I have been trying to get the electric choke to work well on my car.
it's a list 1850 that has been converted to a electric choke with the small internal vacuum pull off.
It either will not completely disengage when hot.
Or it does not raise the idle much when cold.
what am I supposed to adjust to make it work well?

I have tried running no choke at all, but that I didn't like.

Was this a manual choke to electric choke conversion?

It should have been, but i bought the carburetor used with the electric choke installed.
The list 1850-X is the manual choke version from factory and the list 80457-Y is the electric choke version.

Below first picture is manual choke ( with spacers ) rod on left. On right is choke rod for automatic chokes and manual choke that did not mount with spacers.
Next photo is fast idle arm from auto ( electric ) choke kit.
Third photo is fast idle arm from older carb with original electric or hot air auto choke.
Fourth picture is fast idle arm for manual choke . You can see the fast idle screw is offset to the outward . This will not line up to the auto choke ( electric or hot air ) choke cam. Although I have bent them to line up successfully.

I have had new holley carb that acted similar to you subscribed. When I removed the carb, on the bench I found the choke rod would occasionally bind and the fast idle cam would not fall. A SLIGHT bending of the choke rod to align fixed it. If I remember correctly , the rod was catching on the main body of the carb sometimes.
Here is a picture of an original electric choke conversion kit for the 1850 and 3310 carbs that I have.

Thanks this is really good information.
I my case the "weight" appeared not to be heavy enough to push down all the way. Therefore the choke idle speed screw stays engaged.
