I have read and been told this style carb doesn't produce a very good signal at idle

Update: So I changed the carb as an experiment and went with the Proform 950. A big difference in the way the engine idles and its low throttle movement [better] response. So I'm guessing the smaller venturi carb wasn't the right fit.

Is it just me or did anyone else get lost on which carb you were working on?

Another data point: I'm running a BB Mopar (451) with a 272@.050 cam (.652 gross lift) and 10.3:1 iron heads at the moment. Carb is a 950 with 4 drilled throttles (.100, IIRC). Idles at 13.5-13.8 AFR, 1100-1200 rpm and I think it's reasonably "crisp" whatever that is

I forgot to add the ignition timing: cranking at 16 degrees, idles at 27 degrees, max 36.
Also manifold vacuum advance which doesn't start at idle since it only pulls 8".
