The gap is the same size around the entire booster. Seems like the hole is tapered. From the underside. If you light with a flashlight from the float side, you see light in the gap.

In reality, you see the light in the gap around the entire insert.
The light comes from the float side.

I would assume there would be some compromise there. Even if the discharge holes draw is stronger than the draw on that gap there would be some capillary action taking fuel toward the gap.

I wonder if you could get something like a ball bearing slightly bigger than the insert i/d and gently press it against that trailing edge to ever so slightly flare it out. In situ of course.

I better take a closer look at mine.

Took mine out tonight and they look ok. No visual gaps and I did the same test you did with some penetrant. One had a slight weep but not enough to be concerned.

I wonder if Mike or Mark would share an opinion on your situation?

Being aluminum it shouldn’t be too hard to rectify.

What type of Loctite do you recommend that hardens in a gap of about 0.5 mm and of course can withstand petrol?
