I have a friend who's got a '71 'Cuda 340. Our shop did a bunch of work to it late last year, but couldn't quite back to 100%. We found that the throttle shaft bore is badly worn, creating a large yet inconsistent vacuum leak. Of course, it's a one-year-only "solid fuel" TQ, so replacement throttle bodies ain't exactly falling out of trees for it... plus, it's the OE carb to the car, which is mostly original. It runs so much better than it did, he's not overly concerned but we know better and want it 100% right.
Does anyone know of a reputable place that can repair the shaft bores on this thing? He'd rather keep the carb it was born with if at all possible.
For the curious, it
is curious... Y3 Curious Yellow, elastomeric bumpers at both ends, shaker hood, rear window louvers, console auto, Rallye dash, AM/FM/cassette, 15x7 Rallye wheels, etc. It's 2-tag car that he bought in 1978 for $2,200. Gotta be worth at least twice that now, huh?
