Spivys on 3310-1

Postby 57 210 » Thu Oct 27, 2022 4:10 pm

3310-1 was originally made for 396 chevys. It is a 780 cfm with down leg boosters that have spivys on them.[ small protrusion's that help direct mixture to help balance distribution in big block chevys. Holley made the same carb as original equipment for chevy.]
I'm wondering if anybody has used them on a small block chevy. and how fuel distribution worked out. with spark plug checks.

These were also used on Carter AVS & TQ carbs. Sorry, have no other info on them.

Those carbs were used on dual plane intake manifolds. So if you are using a dual plane intake it may have the same effect even on a sbc dual plane ?
I have used this carb on a BBC single plane intake , but I never bothered checking the plugs. For one thing I don't consider myself very good at reading spark plugs.
I just use the AFR gauge.
For a single plane intake distribution is not usually as bad.
Let us know how you make out.

I'm far from an expert spark plug reader but looking at your plugs helps seeing how your fuel distribution is and gives you a sense of what your afr Guage readings do. It can also verify timing and idle cleanliness. I'll probably not use this carb till the spring next year. Just wondering what to look for. Try checking plugs. It's useful and enlightening. Another tool to help.
