Just wondering if anyone has any opinions or experience with a Holley list 7010 carb. Its a staggered bore carb with reverse idle 780cfm. Primary venturi is 1 1/4" , Secondary venturi 1 9/16". Throttle plates primary # 107 1.5" and secondary #180 1.75". It is not a spread bore

I worked with a couple of these many years ago. like 40 or so. primaries of a 600, secs of an 850. All I really remember is having a lot of trouble with a hesitation with secondary opening. I tried everything in the book and some stuff that wasn't. Today I think I could make one work by using one of the newer style sec vacuum pod lids with the needle valve adjustment.

AFAIK it was pretty much stock 4150 stuff in it except the base gasket which is an oddball due to the differing throttle diameters. probably use the old one, not much ever goes wrong with that.

So I did a restoration on the carb even though it was in excellent condition. I will post some pictures. Was able to buy the base gasket separately. It also uses bowl gasket same as holley spread bore. Going to try it out on my 454bbc with lumpy camshaft. A little concerned about reverse idle setup

do you do the re-coloring for anybody or just for your own stuff? I've got an old 4779 that's really tired looking. it's clean but faded away.

I do some for other people. I am in ontario canada about half hour from sarnia. Making them look good is one thing. To work good is another. I wish I new half as much as some of you guys on this forum. Coming to this forum was a real eye opener for me. So I am still learning. Sometimes I am a little hesitant to post on here because I don't want to come across like I know anything or offend the knowledgeable people here. I am still learning.
Anyways , here is a 4779 I did recently. Notice the unusual roller type linkage setup. First time I have seen that.

yeah, that's a very old style linkage. feels very smooth on the pedal.

I can make them work good, easy. plating and coloring not so much. Not sure I want to have the chemicals in my attached garage.

Not sure about sending a box back and forth across the border. Are there customs issues?

So i decided to install this 7010 holley in stock form on my 454bbc to see what its all about.
Lunati cam , 227degrees @ .050" 107 lsa , single plane Victor Jr,
400 turbo automatic, 2:73 rear gear

Started with idle mixture screws turned all the way in (reverse idle carb) to get a decent idle.
In neutral Idle speed 900rpm vacuum 15 inches AFR 14.5:1
In gear idle speed 750rpm vacuum 12 inches AFR 15:1
30 mph 12:1 AFR
50 mph 12:1 AFR 18" vacuum
60mph 12.5:1 AFR
Next I tuned idle mixture screws out to 3/4 turn from fully seated to lean it out a bit.
Idle was rough until engine got heat soaked . Still not as smooth as before
In neutral idle 1200 rpm vacuum 18 inches AFR 16:1
In gear idle 850 rpm vacuum 12 inches AFR 17:1
30 mph 15:1 AFR 16" vacuum 1250rpm
40 mph 14:1 AFR 18" vacuum 1700 rpm
50 mph 14.2:1 AFR 18" vacuum 2100 rpm
60 mph 14.2:1 AFR 18" vacuum 2400 rpm
70 mph 14:1 AFR 18' vacuum 2800 rpm

No hesitations, off idle, cruise, or going to secondaries. Very smooth operation with either idle mixture settings.
In conclusion I think this carb may be well suited to a cam with a little less duration.
Any thoughts, anyone

looks good, but you know those idle AFR readings are bogus, right? cam 227@050, ground on a 107. you're reading the oxygen that skips through the chamber during overlap. That would be addition to the oxygen present because of pressure/vacuum pulsing in the exhaust.
