What is going on here?

Noticed this hole in the power valve well and don't believe it should be there.
It is a 750 HP main body on a N/A engine, so boost reference is not needed.

I do not recall if it was there from new and if it wasn't...what caused it?

There has to be a hole leading to manifold vacuum. Is that the only hole in the well?

EH,
I looked again at the pic & it just didn't look right. In my H book, the man vac access to the PV comes up through the bottom of that chamber.
That hole looks like a casting flaw, & it may go through to the throttle bore.
Carb also looks like an older model, doesn't have the acc pump brass transfer tube.

Vacuum port leading to manifold vacuum to control the power valve. That's normal.
