Holley 850 Street HP Baseplate

Postby 6.50camaro » Fri Nov 12, 2021 3:56 am

I have a Holley 850 Street HP Carb ,this has 1.562 venturi's and a 1.687 throttle baseplate . I removed the baseplate and measured the bottom of the main body because looking down it appeared that the baseplate was chamfered to meet the main body . Sure enough the body measures 1.74x .The baseplate has a chamfer at the top to allow the larger main body to transition into the 1.687 base plate . My question is can I use a 1.750 baseplate without having to do any other mods other the tuning for increased airflow . Thanks Dan

It should work fine with the 1.75 base plate. The 1.56 v with the 1.68 throttle is the original 830 configuration.

It's Holley playing the name game again with the Street HP carbs by calling the 1.56 x 1.68 an 850 and the 1.56 x 1.75 a 950.

Couldn't find a picture. The 830 base plate is a 1.75 top that tapers down to a 1.68 throttle plate to fit the old NASCAR rule. The main body is a 1.56 x 1.75 piece common to the traditional 850. It was/is a Band-Aid design, at best.

I tried to upload a couple photos but the files were to big and resizing them is way beyond my computer skills. Dan

looking down you can see the lighter ring of the chamfer if you click on it to enlarge.

Thanks for the pics. I never worked with an 830. Don't think I ever will now.
