All else being equal, being a met rod carb, instant throttle response will ALWAYS be better than a Holley [ or clone ] with a power valve because of the torturous fuel flow path from the fuel bowl to the main well. Another reason for better response, & fuel economy, is the AVS smaller primaries. Edel added venturiis with boosters in the secondaries on their AVS, which in my opinion, is an improvement on an already excellent design [ original Carter AVS did not have these ].
A test on a 350 Chebby with an 800 AVS v a 780 #3310 Holley made 26 ft/lbs more with the AVS & more tq everywhere from 2500 to 6500 rpm.
Stay away from the Street Demon, a re-created TQ made by Holley. I have used two; one worked ok. The other, on a mild 400 Pontiac engine, had a bog when the secondaries opened. No amount of tuning with the air valve, jets & rods could eliminate the bog. Owner even rang Holley [ from Australia ] & they had no answers....Owner re-fitted his QJ.Statistics: Posted by GTO Geoff — Sun Jan 02, 2022 6:22 am
