Black one. Done three now.
Yellow chromate. Carb only loosely together and needs the vents tidied up. Yellow chromate is more temperamental and the coverage can look good but rubs off in random spots after a few days.
Looking at getting olive drab soon to try that.

Sorry for rookie questions. I'm mostly interested in re-coloring the older zinc carbs. I see videos using Alumiprep 33 [phosphoric] followed by Alodine 1201. Is this a good recipe, or is there a better way?
Is coloring of the newer alum bodies any different?

1) home soda blast to remove any remaining factory coating
2) polish for a more gloss than matte finish
3) dip in black chromate as per instructions
Is this basically what needs doing?
Any critical steps missing from the very basic three listed above?
In an old article about Demon carbs it was mentioned they were finished in “silver die chromate” I couldn’t find what this is. Would they have been finished in blue chromate or clear? Are they one and the same?
Is the below race Demon and Claw possibly olive drab chromate or just a strong yellow chromate?
Sooo many color variations when you start taking notice.
