Hi all - just curious what everyone’s thoughts are on the AVS2. I have a stockish 396 in a 72 K10 that I use for snow plowing (just my driveway). Currently has a street avenger 770 that runs pretty well, performer 2-O intake, exhaust manifolds, stockish cam (bought used), 702 heads. I don’t know the compression ratio.

Sometimes I get the itch to mess with the truck and was thinking maybe the AVS2 might get a little better fuel economy and have better low-end throttle response than the street avenger. I really like the manual choke for a truck that gets winter usage.

Was thinking the 650 AVS2 isn’t too expensive, I think about 330 after my oreilly veteran’s discount. Probably cheaper than whatever else I’d waste money on if I picked something else to mess with. So how do the AVS2 carbs run, any thoughts?

I have a friend who has used 650 AVS2's on Chrysler engines & had nothing but praise for them. Cannot recall a bad thing said about them by anyone.
All else being equal, being a met rod carb, instant throttle response will ALWAYS be better than a Holley [ or clone ] with a power valve because of the torturous fuel flow path from the fuel bowl to the main well. Another reason for better response, & fuel economy, is the AVS smaller primaries. Edel added venturiis with boosters in the secondaries on their AVS, which in my opinion, is an improvement on an already excellent design [ original Carter AVS did not have these ].
A test on a 350 Chebby with an 800 AVS v a 780 #3310 Holley made 26 ft/lbs more with the AVS & more tq everywhere from 2500 to 6500 rpm.

Stay away from the Street Demon, a re-created TQ made by Holley. I have used two; one worked ok. The other, on a mild 400 Pontiac engine, had a bog when the secondaries opened. No amount of tuning with the air valve, jets & rods could eliminate the bog. Owner even rang Holley [ from Australia ] & they had no answers....Owner re-fitted his QJ.

Thanks Geoff. Any thoughts on how the annular boosters would meter at higher elevations? I live at about 2000 feet elevation and would tune the carb for that elevation. But I’d like to be able to go up to 8000 feet or so without running too rich. I’ve heard annulars can be more sensitive to elevation changes and I don’t wanna be under my hood tuning my carb during hunting season. My 4150 style carbs with downleg boosters have done ok with the elevation changes but not sure about the AVS2 with the annulars.
